Retablos, Ex Votos, Milagros Workshops
An ex voto is a votive offering of public testimony to faith and gratitude…a re-telling of a rescue… a lost farm animal found… tragedy suffered yet survived…an answered prayer…divine intervention solicited. Ex voto testimony took the form of small paintings along with text, on tin or wood, explaining the circumstance. But in this mixed media immersion of techniques the folk art form can be created on textiles, furniture, in altered books, shrines, on garments, home decorative projects, fabric painting, murals, embroideries or some other art and craft of your personal proficiency. Examples of ex votos, milagros, and retablos traditional and contemporary will be presented to inspire.
